Oui, j'ai besoin d'une solution

Dear All,

I am interested to purchase the PGP for use on my MacBook Air.

Have a few questions and would like to listen from you for advise.

  1. Would the PGP works on my Mac Air since it's running on 10.8.3?
  2. If Yes, would i be able to encrypt my portable Seagate HDD just like how bitlocker works?
  3. If it can support and encrypt my portable HDD, would my portable HDD be able to work all windows laptop?

Regards,

Kenny Yip

Non, je n'ai pas besoin d'une solution (je partage des informations seulement)

the current available source code version from PGP available for download dates from 2011 and is version 10.0.1

Questions:

1) when will the source code be updated to the actual version?

2) is there somewhere a (peer) reviewing about (current) PGP WDE/Symantec Encryption Desktop available on the internet, where "ordinary" PC/Mac users can read if they can trust this software?

Can't Resume Decryption of External HD

Oui, j'ai besoin d'une solution

I was in the process of decrypting an external USB HD when my house lost power.  Now that power is restored.... I went to resume the decryption process with no success.  This is what I have done so far.......any and all help would be greatly appreciated:

  1. Command line Status of External Drive:
  • pgpwde --status --disk 1
Disk 1 is instrumented by bootguard.
Encryption (Decryption) process was interrupted improperly, possibly by BSOD or power failure.
      Current key is valid.
    Drive encrypted
      Total sectors: 976773168 highwatermark: 640700457

  1. Attempted to resume decryption via command line:
  • pgpwde --resume --disk 1 -p PASSPHRASE
Operation resume encrypt or decrypt failed:
    Error code -12000: bad parameters

  1. Attempted to start new decryption process:
  • pgpwde --decrypt --disk 1 -p PASSPHRASE
    Operation start decrypt disk failed:
    Error code -11959: disk locked

  1. Displayed config of disk:
  • pgpwde --show-config --disk 1
             Login Message:
    Display Startup screen: No
      Display Machine Name: Yes
              Machine Name:
         Use Audio Prompts: No
              User lockout: Disabled
        Allow user decrypt: Yes
Request sent to Show configuration information was successful

  1. I only have one user associated to this disk:
  • pgpwde --list-user --disk 1
    Total of 1 user:
User  1: Name: USERNAME Type: Symmetric
    System Record Information:
          Disk UUID: e6e58907-0022-4145-afa3-fb79589bdf69
         Group UUID: 00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000
    Attribute Information:
      S = SSO, O = Offloaded, L = Locked out, A = Anti Theft, M = Managed Admin
LSR = Local Self Recovery Available
Request sent to List users on disk was successful

The passphrase is correct...because when I intentially mistype it....it tells me wrong passphrase.   I've searched other answers about the disk locked error...but it refers to a universal server and using WDRT.   I'm a standalone client not managed by a server....so that solution didn't apply.  Didn't find anything on the bad parameters error code so far.

If I buy a new Macintosh now, it will come with OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion, which PGP WDE supports. If I wait a couple weeks, it will probably come with Mavericks. Does anyone know about Mavericks compatibility?

No detail is too trivial as I am a complete newbie.  Thanks for your patience

I had a corporate image mac with OSX 10.8, running whole disk encrryption.  The external drive I used for Time Machine backups was also encrypted.

That Mac was reimaged with 10.9 (Mavericks) and an attempt to insatll WDE bricked it.  I need to recover the backups, but when I connect to that drive, I get the message the disk i snot readable - Initialize/Ignore/Eject.  I can see teh drive in Disk Utility, but cannot mount it.

Installed encrytpion desktop v3.1 on another mac that has OSX10.8, but cannot figure out how to access and decrypt the external drive defined above.

Help, plesae !!

Symantec WDE stopped working on MACOSX 10.8.5

Oui, j'ai besoin d'une solution

I have Symantec Encryption (10.3.0 MP3) installed on MacBook Pro MACOSX 10.8 encrypted with FileVault 2. I use PGP WDE on external drives to transfer files between Windows and Macs. Until recently it worked fine and I had no problems of connecting and opening external drives on Mac.  However recently I think after upgrading to OSX 10.8.5 Symantec WDE has stopped working for external drives: when the drive is inserted the message comes that the drive is not readable.  Symantec WDE doesn't see the drive. When I turned FileVault off and reinstalled Symantec Encryption it started working again. The same problem was at the second MacBook as well.

Does anybody have this problem? How to solve it? Is there any fix on the Symantec side?

Thank you for help

PGP Encryption Desktop - Upgrading to Mountain Lion

Oui, j'ai besoin d'une solution

hi guys,

Hope you can help me with this:

At the moment I have a Mac Book Pro running Lion 10.7.4, with Bootcamp, Windows 7.

I have PGP Encryption Desktop 10.3.0.

I would like to upgrade to Maverics but we can't because the encryption software doesnt support it yet (At least until Feb 2014?), so my next best option is to intall Mountain Lion 10.8.5.

Question is, I know I need to install PGP Encryption Desktop 10.3.1, what I'm worried is that is the right order of things to do this upgrade, I dont want to brick my work machine!

Do I decrypt everything from the OS X side first, then upgrade OS X to Mountain Lion? then install 10.3.1 ? on OS X first then on Windows?

Very much look forward to your responce,

Thank you,

Juan

Why is it that Symantec insists on hiding them all the time.  A link would be appreciated.

A new OS and we get the same dance from this tired dance partner, and the same things happens each year since Symantec got PGP.  I read through the threads last night to find that quite a few end users are now complaining and some of them are angry.

Good.

Symantec's stewardship of this product has been abysmal.  They make excuses and when people like me compain, they threaten me.  That's right, they threaten me.  This is a community forum.  The community is the end users but how dare anyone say anything bad about Symantec.  How dare you.

And don't question their wonderful representatives here, you will get private messages that border on nasty.  I have the proof.  Right Ben?

No, just sit back and shut up all of you, take it.  Take the bad faith, take the delays, take the bugs.  Take it all.

Don't you dare, any one of you, complain.

Hello Community,

Beginning with version 10.3.1, compatibility with 32-bit versions of the Mac OS X operating system has been discontinued. Please check TECH213234.

Symantec Encryption Desktop for Mac OS X Compatibility with 32-bit Operating Systems

Installation-related error message:
"Installation check failure. Encryption Desktop can’t be installed on this computer.. Your Mac OS X system has been started up using the 32-bit kernel. To install Symantec Encryption Desktop, you must start up your system using the 64-bit kernel"

compatibility of PGP 10.3.1 MP1 with bootcamp - translation errors of release notes

Oui, j'ai besoin d'une solution

according to the release notes of version 10.3.1 MP1 it states on 2nd page at "important note":

"Symantec Encryption Desktop 10.3.1 MP1 is compatible with Apple Boot Camp on Mac OS X 10.8".

as German native speaker however I found in the German version of the release notes following:

"Beachten Sie jedoch, dass Symantec Encryption Desktop auf Mac OS X 10.8 nicht mit Apple Boot Camp kompatibel ist"

I have highlighted the word "nicht" in bold - which means that 10.3.1 MP1 is NOT compatible with BootCamp.

what is true? I assume that 10.3.1 MP1 still supports boot camp, however the future 10.3.2 version will not...

Symantec Encryption Desktop for Mac OS Mavericks - catch 22

Oui, j'ai besoin d'une solution

Hello,

with Symantec Encryption Desktop (Version 10.3.1 MP1 (build 13266)) there is

misleading information about Mac OS Mavericks support in the technical document TECH174563.

Let me explain:  a Macbook Pro was upgraded to Maverick following the upgrade procedure:

decrypt drive, de-install encryption desktop, upgrade to maverick, install encryption desktop and encrypt the disk. All fine.

Now - having a positive experience - it was tried to do the same procedure with a another new MacBook Air.

The whole procdure started good, but now it was not possible to encrypt the disk drive. Encryption desktop aborts with PGPError: -11997.

A case was openend ([ref:00D30jPy.5005    [ ref:_00D30jPy._50050QCf8g:ref ]) and now we have a catch 22:

Symantec Encryption Desktop is currently not supported on Mac OS X Version 10.9.1 - well it is not possible to get 10.9.0 anymore.

This is why the technical document is misleading: Apple ships Maverick version 10.9.1 and Symantec is currently not supporting it.

It would be good to change the technical document TECH174563 and to state that OS X Maverick is not supported with current operating system versions, so Encryption Desktop is supported with OSX versions which are not available from Apple anymore (10.9 or 10.9.0).

Of course it would be better if Desktop Encryption would support Apple OSX 10.9.1.

Best reagrds, Thorsten

p.s.

Greetings and a big thank you to the technical support engineer Amol who is trying to escalate this issue internally at Symantec.

Current state of the art, encryption on ssd

Oui, j'ai besoin d'une solution

Actually the points in focus are widely discussed in web.

However it is not easy to see what the current status is.

Sleek new computer came in. It is equipped with one ssd.

It is the boot disk with operating system on it. There won't be any additional

operating system on it.

No other internal disks are present. As soon as the usage of new comp will start the sensitive user data

will be stored on that ssd, apart from operating system, used software and non-sensitive

user data.

The question is if this is the only moment to carry out some measures of

protection / precaution in order to achieve the goal described below?

Goal:

- be able to remove the sensitive data from ssd in unrecoverable fashion if

the comp should be resaled some day in the future

- prevent the sensitive data from being accessed by unathorized persons

if some day this comp should be in repair service

If possible the goal seeked by other methods than whole disk encryption.

The goal is also to have a solution with none negative impacts

to usage of the computer in all other aspects.

If the answer to question asked above is "yes" what are the necessary

measures to be made now?

Can the goal be achieved in 100 per cent reliable way?

PGP Desktop 10.3.2 not working!

Oui, j'ai besoin d'une solution

Hello there I have been a long time user of PGP on windows and it's always worked nicely aside from the issue where the damn thing posts unencrypted files top dropbox when it should be encrypted but whatever I'm not here to talk about that.

I recently got a Mac and wanted to setup PGP on it.

It has OSX Mavericks 10.9.2 I can install PGP just fine, create keys, encrypt, decrypt, sign etc etc however if I go to the PGP Disk section this error pops up:

§The system extension “/System/Library/Extensions/PGPwde.kext” was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product’s vendor for an update.§

If I go to "Encrypt a Disk" no drives appear in the list not even my externals or USB sticks (all of which should appear).

If I do manage to make a volume I can't mount it usually and if by a miracle I do manage to mount it then it is lacking a ton of files that should be in the Volume it makes no sense at all.

I thought I might have installed something bad so I downloaded Mavericks from AppStore and installed it to a totally blank external drive and the FIRST thing I opened after the OS was installed is the PGP installer where I instantly installed it and got EXACTLY the same problems on a fresh install as I'm getting right now on my actual OS.

PGP 10.3.2 does 'not' work on a FRESH OSX 10.9.2 installation.

Is this going to be fixed soon? Since I am in the process of moving to Mac I will be changing all my drives over from NTFS to Mac and since I cant get PGP to work I fear I will have to use an alternative such as TrueCrypt but I really want to keep using my Public/Private key for my encrypted disks is there a way to make PGP work?

I can clearly tell that considering 10.3.2 does not work on a *clean* OSX 10.9.2 install that something is seriously wrong with the current version of PGP when can I expect an update?.

Thanks!.

Oui, j'ai besoin d'une solution

I am trying to perform a full disk encryption on my Mac OSX (mountain lion - 10.8.5), using PGP version 10.2.1.

However, when I click the 'Encrypt Disk' option, my Disk does not appear. If I plug in an external harddrive or flash drive these appear, but my boot disk is just not there.

I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling PGP to no avail.

Any ideas?
